[net.followup] answering machines - a survey

I bought a Phone-mate IQ-3000. It was the only machine I found which
had beeperless remote answering. That is, to remotely get your messages,
you use a touch tone phone, rather than having to carry around a beeper.
(All functions are accessible remotely.)
It has other goodies like "toll-saver" - answers on first ring if there
are messages, on fourth if there are no messages (so you can hang up
before it answers avoiding cost of call). It has variable record
length - records as long as caller talks (can override if you like).
You can also record any length message you want. It has several
other random goodies.

The only problem is that it was apparently coded by a blazing idiot.
It can go into an infinite loop if you do something wrong. The only
recourse is to pull the plug.

Cost: $299 at a discount house ("The Good Guys") in San Francisco.
