[comp.sys.mac.misc] SGIL "Fast Math" - Summary

barvian@ece.cmu.edu (Scott Barvian) (04/29/91)

Thanks to all those who provided advice about the SGIL "Fast Math Init".
On an unaccelerated Mac Plus, Speedometer says that it boosts the math
performance from 1.02 to 3.32 (relative to an SE). I'm going to attempt
to benchmark some applications and see if this is really true. It sounds
great!

On a related note, I found that using the SCSI-Accelerator Init to speed
up SCSI software access boosted my disk performance (Ehman/Seagate) from
1.10 to 1.33- for a combined performance boost from .94 SEs to 1.5 SE's.

It's no FX, but then again it only costs two shareware fees. Of course
your mileage may vary.
