Thanks to all those who provided advice about the SGIL "Fast Math Init". On an unaccelerated Mac Plus, Speedometer says that it boosts the math performance from 1.02 to 3.32 (relative to an SE). I'm going to attempt to benchmark some applications and see if this is really true. It sounds great! On a related note, I found that using the SCSI-Accelerator Init to speed up SCSI software access boosted my disk performance (Ehman/Seagate) from 1.10 to 1.33- for a combined performance boost from .94 SEs to 1.5 SE's. It's no FX, but then again it only costs two shareware fees.
