[comp.sys.mac.misc] TrueType summary

Christopher Tate <CXT105@psuvm.psu.edu> (05/05/91)

WARNING: this article is cross-posted to three groups; please edit the
Newsgroups: line if you wish to follow up to it.

Some time back I posted a question to these three newsgroups about
TrueType, regarding the availability of the TrueType font specification
and of font editors for TrueType. I've gotten several responses, and
several people have asked for whatever information I turn up, so here
it is.

As of this moment, there are no font editing/creation programs that
can generate TrueType fonts. However, Letraset's FontStudio 2.0
should be released Real Soon Now, and it has the capability to create
TrueType fonts. The Andesite font, recently posted to comp.binaries.mac,
was created using this program.

The TrueType font specification is available in book form from APDA, the
Apple Partners and Developers Association. It costs $30, and seems to be
analagous to Adobe's "Type One Font Specification." It may be ordered
by contacting APDA at 1-800-282-2732; it is item number M0825LL/A.
