[comp.sys.mac.misc] TrueType and ATM/Deskwriter

tmaddox@milton.u.washington.edu (Tom Maddox) (05/06/91)

My question: can I use TrueType fonts with ATM and a Deskwriter?
And if so, what will the output look like?

Yes and no. I think you are asking if TrueType fonts will be printed using
ATM. That won't happen. OTOH, if you get the TrueType INIT and put it on
your computer, then TrueType fonts will be printed using the TrueType INIT.
Like ATM, TrueType INIT works with the DeskWriter. I have received messages
saying that TrueType will sort of work with System 6.0.5, but it "officially"
requires 6.0.7.

Also, in terms of hierarchy, TrueType fonts are checked first. If you don't
have a TrueType font, then Adobe fonts are checked next by ATM. If it finds
neither, then it looks for the bitmaps and sizes accordingly.

There's no "sort of" about it, as far as I can tell. I've used
both 6.0.5 and 6.0.7, and TrueType output looks exactly the same on both.
Same high quality font. Same bugs. Same everything. Anyone disagree?
I'd like to know...
