I have recently acquired a DOS-based notebook computer with MS-Works. I transferred files via floppy disk and DOS Mounter to the Mac. Spreadsheet files successfully go over into EXCEL files, and can be opened normally. However, word processor files come over as type 'TEXT' and creator 'mdos', and although they can be opened as text files within MS-WORD 4.0, formatting is lost and even in a pure text file there are embedded linefeeds that will have to be eliminated. Does anyone have insight or a solution to the wordprocessor file problem? I can live with things the way they are, but a more elegant solution would be nice. For example, other methods of transferring the files are possible (MacLink, or one of the other DOS-opening INITS). Or, there may be special applications to open the file--when I attempt to open the file directly, HANDOFF II tells me that it is expecting a program called MaC286 (TM) v. 2.0, which I have never heard of.
