I'm looking for backup sofware. How do Redux & FastBack II compare? Or is there a better third one? I've seen Redux 1.6 & Fastback II v 2.00. Fastback II seems to be deficient on handling disks in error and can't tell where to start restoring from ( I used it for a hierarchy transfer and it failed). Is the current version better? COmpression, etc... Thanks -Rob "Its a good thing frogs can hop, or I'd be Gone With the Schwinn!" rlwald@phoenix.princeton.edu

I am going to set up an AppleTalk file server on our PhoneNet netowork. This file server will have a SCSI external HD of about 600Mbytes. And I am looking for a backup hardware and software for the file server. I will like to have the backup device attached to file server. Becuase our network hardware is PhoneNet, that is, 230.4Kbits/sec. I assume that it is too slow to do the backups over the network. For the hardware, I am considering DAT tape drives, Exabyte tape drive and magneto optical dirves. If you have any experience in using the devices in a similiar network setup of 30 Mac's and 4 printers, good or bad, please share it with me. And I will like the backup software to be able to do 1. Backup without having to shutdown the server, and 2. unattended backups and scheduled backups 3. incremental backups 4. maintaining the user, group and access attributes of the files Is there such a software available? Thanks in advance! And I will post a summary if enough people ask for it. -- Chin-tien Chen chen@aer.com Atmospheric and Environmental Research, Inc.
