[comp.sys.mac.misc] LaserWriter 6.0.2 problem?

Christopher Tate <CXT105@psuvm.psu.edu> (05/13/91)

We recently started using LaserWriter driver version 6.0.2, and I'm having
some trouble creating PostScript files.

Once upon a time, if you elected to create a PostScript file on disk
rather than printing to the actual printer, you didn't need to have a
printer connected to the machine; you just selected the "Disk File" box
(or held "k", or whatever) and there you were.

Now, however, it seems that the LaserWriter driver *requires* that you
have a LaserWriter physically connected to the machine, and selected in
the Chooser, rather than just requiring that the LaserWriter driver be
selected.

I'd very much like to be able to create PostScript output on machines that
do *not* have laser printers attached; does the new version of the driver
really disallow this? The error dialog that it pops up (*after* showing
the message "Creating PostScript file" in the print message box) says
that it can't find the printer (which seems to imply that it wants a
real printer out there for some reason).

Help!
