[comp.sys.mac.misc] Would you pay for System 7?

norton@extro.ucc.su.OZ.AU (Norton Chia) (05/16/91)

The reason I asked if you'd buy System 7 is that MS has been boasting the
number of Windows 3.0 it's sold. Since System 7 is an upgrade -> you don't
need it if you don't want it, wouldn't it be nice that the Mac community
could support the Mac movement by purchasing System software which is
heavily subsidised anyway? Sure we can get it for free legally, that's the
whole point! Despite that, we still went out to buy such and such.
I think for connected Macs, the Personal File Sharing is worth the asking
price alone. For isolated Macs, I think the alias and improved Finder including
Find is worth it. Also, we get HyperCard 2.1 and all the manuals, I don't
think it's asking too much!! Please, no flames regarding paying for HC :)

Apple is not a hardware company, it's a clothing company, we all know that :)
But it wants to be seen as a System software company. You buy the software
and get a Mac for free... I have never objected to paying for cheap and good
value software -> sort of anything sub-$100 while I believe it really is
worth at least twice that.

Anyway, just bouncing around some thoughts, now that a few more of you (the
luckier ones) have had a chance of playing with the *real* System 7, how
do you guys feel?

Have a nice day folks!
