I'm installing Avatar MacMainframe Gateways in several locations on campus. This gateway provides SNA (mainframe) access for Mac's on an AppleTalk network. These gateways will be located in wiring closets and I'd like to run them without a keyboard and without a monitor. This arrangement prevents anyone else from messing with things and also minimizes the amount of space required (these wiring closets are FULL already). I've been able to successfully run the gateway software (it's part of the system) without a keyboard attached (boot with the power switch), but can't seem to get things to work (on my Mac IICx - the only test system I have currently) unless the monitor is plugged in. Once the gateway is running I can turn the monitor off, and could probably unplug it, but I don't want to be carrying a monitor around after every power outage. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Can this be done? Do folks run things like AppleShare on "monitorless" Mac's? (seems like a similar situation). Thanks in advance. Jamie Sonsini 9531sons@ucsbvm.bitnet
