There are two solutions I know of.

(1) The compare tool in MPW.  This does a good job with straight text
files.  You do have to be running MPW for it to work though.

(2) DocuComp from Advanced Software.  This handles many word processor
formats and does lots of fancy things like color highlighting of
differences or changes bars.  It's top notch, but also it's commercial.
