[comp.sys.mac.misc] TrueType problem with Word 4 and LC ?

stanger@otago.ac.nz (Nigel Stanger) (05/19/91)

OK, here's a problem that's got me stumped. I got TrueType
yesterday and installed it fine on my SE/30 at work. It works
great and with no problems. The only real difference I noticed
was that the Page Preview in Word was slower than usual, but I
attibute that to the extremely tiny point size it was using.
Otherwise ist was really great (I just *love* the Times Italic
font :-)

Now for the real problem. I took it home and installed it on my
LC, thinking it would work OK. Oops, sorry, no cigar. While it
*does* work, it does some rather weird things in Word. When I
type something into a Word document, everything is (usually) fine
until I am about halfway across the page, then suddenly the
cursor throws a fit, and the line wraps at about the halfway
point. The screwy thing is that Word thinks that the text is
still where it *should* be, even though the display says the
text is somewhere else. (If I didn't explain that well, I'm
sorry, but it's the sort of thing you really need to *see* to
understand.)

I can fix the display problems by hitting Cmd-Y (i.e. show/hide
P). I have also noticed sometimes while I am typing that the
cursor ill suddenly jump across the screen, then jump back to
where I am typing. It's really rather disconcerting.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is it a problem with
TrueType, Word or the LC? Or is it some weird combination of the
three? Note that it does not happen on the SE/30 *at all*. I have
not tried other applications on my LC yet, so I don't know
whether it's specific to just Word (wouldn't surprise me though
;-)

System setups:

SE/30 (Work, OK) LC (Home, screwy)
5 Megs RAM 10 Megs RAM
40 Meg Internal HD 40 Meg External HD, Single Floppy
System 6.0.7 System 6.0.7
Several INITs Huge numbers of INITs

Word 4.0 in both cases. Thanks in advance.
