[comp.sys.mac.misc] LISA HELP!

alim@pooh (Ali) (05/04/91)

Hi,
I've just gotten a hold of an old LISA!
Since I was junior high when this machine came out, I'd love to get it running,
as a curiosity thing (I spend my time on *slightly* more powerful
workstations). But when I turned it on, it started doing a boot-up check and
gave some rom error (that dead-mac face + 0F0064 under it)..... what can I do ?
Should I get "new" rom ? where would I go to get that ? Would original mac rom
do ? How much would that cost ? Should I contact Apple ?
I would greatly appreciate any help!
Ali
p.s. btw, are there any old LISA users out there ? How did you like the machine
?

Call Sun Remarketing as ask for a catalog. You can get the number from
the 800 operator, or look in a recent Mac magazine. Sun Remarketing
specialized in Lisa and Mac hardware and software. They also sell Apple ///
hardware. Sun Remarketing has also commisioned new Lisa parts, and upgrades
to use SCSI hardware and Mac + compatibility.

Then you will love the Lisa. Is is quite powerful, has an excellent operating
system, and runs a varitey of excellent software. After all, the most
powerful computer is the one the people actually use.

No, Apple doesn't remember the Lisa, and most Mac dealers have trouble
keeping up with stuff like System 6, let alone "classic" hardware.

Most Lisa users are fairly young, as are most computer users in general.
Perhaps you might want to inqure about SeniorNET, a network for older
people and senior citizens.

Ihave a Lisa that I recently picked up. You're out of luck as far as Apple
is concerned. You have to get in touch with Sun Remarketing to get a new
ROM. I'm sure that they'll charge you a rather rude price for it, they're
not very cheap. Their # is 800-821-3221

Won't help. If you get the dead mac, you are already running MacWorks. What
0F 0064 means is corrupted or missing system file. Try booting with a 400K
disk with an old system (3.2 or thereabouts) on it.
