[comp.sys.mac.misc] Apple II on Mac

danielg@med.unc.edu (Daniel Gene Sinclair) (05/22/91)

Ok, I'm back, a little more informed than before ;-). More questions.
I'm sorry that I missed much of the discussion on this, but it wasn't
interesting to me until my friend needed to run II software on a Mac!
Phrrrt!

QUESTION 1: Comments on IIe board?

Could anyone summarize for me their experience, or second hand
experience with the IIe emulator board for the mac?
Are the graphics poor as compared to the original IIe, or just
	compared to the mac?
Why will the board only run in the LC, and not in the si?
Is it true that the board is meant to be used with a 13 in.
monitor, and not the 12 in LC monitor, causing problems with the
graphics? (this sounds hokey to me, but someone mentioned that to
	me %-).

QUESTION 2: IIe software workaround

Anyone tried the IIe emulation *software* called "II in the Mac"
from COMPUTERapplications? I have their number, but haven't
called. It's $150. You think that it will work better than
adding hardware (add in board)? I'd rather not open up the mac
	:-).

QUESTION 3: Apple IIgs - still in production?

My friend seems to think that Apple is pushing it's educational
software through the schools on the GS. Is this an extinct model?
I understand the current set of computers (Classic, LC, si, ci,
fx), but what was the old hierarchy of Apple II's?

QUESTION 4: Software for builders/contractors

My friend is a stone mason and subcontractor. It seems that his
trade journals mention helpful software, but it is still in it's
infancy. He mentioned a couple of packages, but they sound like
specialized spreadsheets for Excel (he told me that these
'programs' that he would have to buy run 'with' Excel).

One is called Hyperestimator, for estimating building costs. I
suggested that this might be some sort of Hypercard stack, but
he's unsure. The second is called MacNail, performs similarly to
the first, but also does payroll, etc.

Any reccomendations of stuff to use for his business? Thanks.

LAST QUESTION: Any LC/IIe machines in my area?

Does anyone in the RTP area (Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill NC area)
have an LC with the IIe board that my friend can try out? Your
help would be *greatly* appreciated. Trying to decide on which pc
	to buy can be frustrating!

Please send email to save the usenet some cash ;)

Much thanks now for an answer to come,

danielg
