[comp.sys.mac.misc] Init Manager for System 7.0

iceman@sequent.com (Ian Evans) (05/23/91)

I sent a stuffed/binhex of a new init manager called Extensions Manager
to sumex-aim.stanford.edu. It should be available as soon as someone
drops the file into a public directory.

Extensions manager was posted to comp.binaries.mac a couple of weeks
ago. It was written by Ricardo Batista who is an engineer at Apple.
It is fully 7.0 compatible, at least as far as I have tested. It
understands the new system folder hierarchy. It doesn't do fancy stuff
like allow you to change the order extensions and control panels load.

Basically it copies files from the original folder location to a
temporary duplicate folder [for example, items in the 'Control Panels'
folder are copied into a folder called 'Control Panels (disabled)' when
they are disabled ]. You can also change what loads at startup by
holding down the spacebar during boot time. Extensions Manager will
start and allow you to select which extensions to load.

To make Extensions Manager work correctly you should put the original
file in the Extensions folder and make it the first file in the folder
alphabetically (you may want a virus checker to load before Extensions
Manager, that's YOUR call). I also put an alias in either the Control
Panels or Apple Menu Items folder depending on how often I need to
access it.

It a simple solution, but it DOES work, and it's FREE!!!
