I have two computers, a Mac SE/30 (5mb, 40mb hd) and a 10 mhz 286 PC/AT clone (2mb, 20mb and 40mb hds, NEC Multisync monitor). I do not plan on using the clone much in the future. I bought it about three years ago for a small programming business I was involved with. This business has now dissolved. I would sell it but there is the outside chance that I might have to provide support for some of the software I wrote (in other words, fix bugs), so I'll probably keep it another 6 to 12 months. I an interested in connecting the NEC monitor to my SE/30. I have connected this same monitor to a MAC IIx and it seems to work ok (I had to get a special cable from NEC). Who out there has any experience with connecting external monitors to an SE/30? Who makes cards for this? Are there cards that will work with my monitor and a larger (16, 19 inch color or bw) monitor if I ever get rich and can afford to buy one? How much do these cards cost? Are there speed problems with an external monitor connected to an SE/30? Also, a lot of the 60 mb of disk space in my clone is sitting there unused. I have considered getting an external hard disk for my SE/30, but if I could set up a cheap Appletalk network between the two machines, I might be able to live with that for a while. I think I would need a PC Appletalk card, some sort of software (PC Appleshare ??) and cables for my clone. Has anyone out there done this? Is it unbearably slow? Roughly, how much would it cost? Would it cost enough that I would be just as well off to buy an external hard drive? Thanks in advance for any help you can give! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Swanger Auburn University SWANGER@DUCVAX.AUBURN.EDU <-- INTERNET SWANGER@AUDUCVAX <-- BITNET -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
