[comp.sys.mac.misc] TrueType Question

macman@unix.cis.pitt.edu (Dennis H Lippert) (06/04/91)

Hi there, got a quick question for you net-people.

I have just gotten finished with reinstalling 6.0.7 on my Classic (7.0 didn't
work well with just 2 megs) after a complete low-level format, and I decided to
use the TrueType INIT, and exclusively TT fonts. My question is this:

Why can TrueType fonts (in general) be put into suitcases (with Suitcase II),
but the "Core Fonts" (Geneva,Chicago,Monaco) have to be installed in the
System file?

I found this out when I made a document with a sample of each font in it, and
printed it out. The 24-point samples all looked good, except for these fonts.
After removing them from the suitcase and putting them in the system file,
everything works well.

My plan had been to heve a very stripped system, and to use Suitcase II for
all of the fonts/DAs, but now I have to have the TrueType fonts (and the four
"required" bitmaps) in my system file.

Is it because the TrueType and bitmap versions of the same font have to be in
the same place?

All replies welcome...
