[comp.sys.mac.misc] Dragging files out of extensions

How does one go about dragging files (or copies of files) out of
either the Extensions or the Control Panels folders of System 7.0?
The dialog box I get upon trying to do so defeats me whether I select 
OK or cancel, so there must be an alternative, short of booting with
System 6.
