This is an invisible file put on to every disk (including hard discs) when you have attempted to change the default icon representation of the disc on the desktop (by cutting/pasting the Get Info icon or whatever) As a matter of fact it seems that this is why floppy discs don't automatically mount of the desktop with System 7's nice greyscale/colour flopy icons. You just get the 1bit version, unless you go to the trouble of pasting in 8bit icons on each disc! Before you attempt to modify the default icon, there isn't an 'Icon' file, so I guess the system just defaults to a 1bit icon. When you have attempted to fiddle around with the icon, the Icon file remanins there (even if you have reverted back to the standard 1bit icon). You can use ResEdit on the file to paste in a full icon familiy for the floppy (or hard disc for that matter). What I can't understand is why the id number of the disc icon couldn't be made the same as the generic floppy (or hard disc) icon in the system (the 'Icon' file contains -16455 or something like that, whereas the generic disc icon is -3xxx or something). Wouldn't it have been nicer to have proper 8 bit disc icons from the start (using the ones in the system file) and only need to add the Icon file if you want something different?
