[comp.sys.mac.misc] INFO NEEDED: Is a IIsi enough for MIDI

janti@athena.arc.nasa.gov (Joel Antipuesto - GDP) (06/25/91)

I'm still in the market for a computer (thanks to all who
responded to my last post).

I was wondering if a IIsi is enough for MIDI applications.
Talking to some apple people, their opinion is that a IIsi is
limiting in that it's only got one NuBus slot. Is this the
case, and if it is is there any way around it that's cost
effective (if the price approaches that of a IIci, might as
well go for that, right? - now, can anyone spare $5k?)

The IIsi is more than fast enough for MIDI applications. The only
problem you may encounter is when using the IIsi with System 6.0.7.
Apparently the sound manager on this system could create problems with
certain combinations of applications. Just use System 7, as most programs
are being updated. If you're worrying about expansion, 2nd wave makes
expansion chassis for the IIsi. Anyway a Sample Cell card will cost you
well over $1000 so you may not be needing that many slots :-)
