Ah, but what would be really desirable is full right-to-left editing
like MacInHebrew (available on sumex.stanford.edu, shareware for
donation to MIT Hillel) claimed to offer, but which I haven't been
able to try since it doesn't run on the MacII.

Check with 'em again. I think that back in April, they announced a new 
version which should work on all Macintoshes.  MIT Hillel at 617-253-2982
