It seems to me that user to manufacturer feedback is a good example of the kind of communication the net was put together to support. The PE survey certainly did not violate any rules or spirit of Usenet. However, it sure would have been nice if they had enclosed a "cover letter" that explained what the survey was all about, who should fill it out, what to do with the results, and what would be done with the data collected.
