Our department has umpteen copies of (old piece of software that has had two major upgrades since it was last used here) tucked away, merrily collecting dust. Some packagesmay still be shrink-wrapped; some have been opened. We have no intention of using this software again, but would like to see something more useful happen to it than tossing it in a dumpster. Does anyone know of a store that would take this stuff of our hands? Obviously, a posting in misc.forsale.computers may eventually be appropriate, but it isn't right now. Thanks. -- R David Francis francis@cis.ohio-state.edu

Perhaps the desksfull of old but still functional software could be combined with warehousesfull of old but still functional computers and peripherals and, with cooperation from organizations like CARE and the U.S. Agency for International Development, contributed to schools and universities in the world's poorest countries where the alternative may be no computer access at all.

I don't know about international donations, but I've heard (you may want to check this out with an expert) that companies can get tax breaks for donating old-but-still-usable versions of software to schools and other charitable organizations. It might be worth checking out, especially if international donations can also apply. If you do find out, please post. Karen J.
