[comp.sys.mac.wanted] breathing life into an old 128K

lowe@nthropy.UUCP (Andy Lowe) (09/05/90)

I have come into posession of an old 128K that has evidently fried one
of its ROM's. I would like to resurrect it for several reasons. I
have a few questions, if anyone knows the answers, and wouldn't mind
taking a few minutes to answer them. thanks!

1. Would it make more sense to replace the board than the ROM chip?
(I would assume so. Even if not, where would I find a replacement
   ROM? suggestions?)

2. If I replace the board, can I and should I try to upgrade to a plus
or SE? Are there packaging differences or power supply considerations?
Can anyone suggest a good source of old mac boards?
Can anyone recommend a technical reference manual?

3. Would it make more sense to toss the dinosaur altogether and buy a
functional used SE? (i.e. ignoring any hobbyist interest or labor,
would I actually save any money this way?)

Please respond by e-mail, and thanks in advance.
