[comp.sys.mac.wanted] looking for the application 'Edit'

johnston@oscar.ccm.udel.edu (11/11/90)

My apologies if this turns out to be another "available only thru APDA"
item. Edit is/was a useful tool that I have linked to several file-
manipulation tasks in HyperCard and telecomm. The copy I was using
was circa 1987, and I honestly do not know if it is a freely available
tool. Nonetheless, can anyone point me to an ftp archive, or suggest
an alternative text edit application that is multifinder-friendly.
Please reply by e-mail. If a follow-up is in order, I'll post one.

Thank-you, Bill (johnston@oscar.ccm.udel.edu).

Several replies recommended Alpha, which appears to be an excellent text
editing application for programmers. Alpha requires considerably more
memory for operation under Multifinder than Edit, and is probably
overkill for my purpose, which involves popping correspondence template
text from HyperCard fields into a simple word processor for printing.
Other possibilities include the original MacWrite, but I don't know
what the licensing procedure would be for this.

I was able to find a copy of Edit, (thank you), and it does seem to
work under Multifinder. However, I haven't gotten any information
as to the distribution status of MDS Edit v.2.0. The About Edit
dialog credits Bill Duvall as author with copyrights assigned to
Apple Computer and Consulair Corporation.

I don't plan to post again on this topic, but I would still like
to know more about the status of Edit, or other *small* non-DA
text editors.

....thanks again
