Does anyone out there have any experience with security program for the Macs? I need to have a lab of Mac Classics 2/40 (approximately 20) but don't want the students to have the access to modify anything on the HD? My current options include FileGuard (Extended Edition), Empower II and AME. AME is too expensive, FileGuard will not give us a site-licence, and I can't find out who to talk to about a site-licence for Empower II. Help!!! I think MacPassword! by Art Schumer is excellent. You can get a demo
via anonymous ftp from nic.funet.fi
I have used it for a while and I'm very satisfied with it.
I haven't succeeded in breaking the code. One thing you must always
remember, though, is: Close all windows and select "Shut down" before
shut down.
The MacPassword! is shareware, i.e. you get an order form with
the demo. The price is $40 and it's really worth it.
A program I don't recommend is Night Watch. It's quite easy to crack.
