Hello to all those out in Net-Land! At out Mac Lab, we have AppleShare running for labs of 20 Macs (15 +'s, 5 SE's) and they all have a common password for their use. However, this common password has a habit of gettign into the hands of people who are not allowed to use the lab (it's an Engineering Student Lab), since it is for Engineering course-work. I wwas wondering if there was a program that could (like a screen-saver, sort-of) after a certain amount of time of being inactive in the Finder (say 30 minutes or so, with the Mac being at the Desktop), it would re-start, at least to the AppleShare "connect" window. The reason we are looking for such a utility is that due to the boot sequence we have (INIT loading & Font/DA suitcase loading via Suitcase II, plus a RamDisk creation), people have a tendency to leave their Mac on after they are finished using it, allowing non-autorized users to access them. Anyone have ideas if there exists such a beast or something similar? Or can anyone point me to someone that I could talk to about finding/ writing something that would do the job? Please feel free to reply via EMail, or by follow-up posts. If you post, forward a copy to me via Email, as our mail feed has been up and down recently.
