We want to purchase a backup system for our Macs on an AppleTalk network. We want to be able to plug in a single tape & backup all our hard disks on the Macs on our network. We understand that the 8mm tapes typically hold 2.3 GB of data or more with compression and that the DAT tapes hold 1.3 GB. We're also aware that the DATs have much faster file access times than the 8mm systems and are thus much better for individual file recovery purposes. We would especially like to hear about the following: - individual experiences with any such remote backup software (do you like it? what has to be installed on individual stations? vendor experience? support? cost? etc. ) - multi-function systems - i.e. able to also use drive for backing up PCs or UNIX workstations (specifics on hardware setup, etc.) Please e-mail to me directly (rwl@ee.umr.edu) & I'll summarize the responses & post it back to this list. Please include names, addresses & phone numbers of vendors. Thanks in advance, -- -- Wayne Little Internet: rwl@ee.umr.edu Phone: (314) 341-4546 USPS: Univ. of Missouri-Rolla, EE Dept., Rolla, MO 65401 "Be so true to thyself as thou be not false to others."
