[comp.sys.mac.wanted] HST N-ram settings for the Mac

mccollue@athena.ecs.csus.edu (Eric McCollum) (03/01/91)

Hello I just got a US robotics HST modem and I need some help. I
understand that I need to have the correct N-ram settings in order to
operrate the modem at the maximum speed. Please send me mail.

You might consider making sure you have (or getting
if you don't have) a hardware handshaking cable. The HST
should be connected to the mac at 38400, which of course is
a much higher speed than the 14400 the HST can connect at.
These settings (particularly &h1) assume you have a HWH cable.

What if you don't have a HWH cable? Well, you'll have
difficulty uploading any files unless (i) you connect the modem to
the mac at less than 14400, which'll slow you down, or (ii) you
*always* use a transmission protocol which supports software
flow control (zmodem is the big choice here).

How can you tell if you have a HWH cable? Well, run zterm
with HW Handshaking selected, and look to see whether the RS LED
comes on when you launch the application.
