I seem to have done a really poor job wording my request, and while I thank the people who responded to me about the ethics of misusing the student discount, I was interested in the *alternatives* to the student discount that came up as a result of recent ethical discussions that I mentioned in my original post. I personally used my student discount while I was still a student 8), but have several friends who are alumni and who didn't have the cash at the time. They are now seeking other discount dealers, and I remembered (perhaps incorrectly) a few people mentioning these types of things. What stuck in my head was someone saying, 'There's no need to ever pay retail for a mac' or some such thing... --ann podlozny podlozny@ai.sri.com

A friend of mine's mother was shopping for a Mac a while back. I gave her the prices I could get via the UC Irvine, and she simply told her local dealer (Sun Computers, as I recall) that "someone quoted me this price, can you match it?" They did. --Andrew Laurence eaeu137@orion.oac.uci.edu
