[net.bugs.4bsd] uucico screwed up /bin/login - possi

systems@uoregon.UUCP (02/20/84)

We (University of Oregon) run 4.1bsd on 750's with RM80's and an SI Eagle.
We had similar problems on both machines. (We had UUCP and our logout deamon
clobbering notefiles and (oh it was sad) /dev!) Our conclusion was that it was
the SI driver. I don't know anything about the particular SI drive that you
have, but ours came with SI software. In that software is a symbol OLDRWHD
which they recommend be defined to be 516. This (they claimed) would allow
us to use their bad block forwarding software. We had 2 RM80's trashed (one
quite badly) before we recognized this as being the source of the problem.
(We didn't recognize it immediately because the first time it happened it
was on a machine with recent local kernel mods, so we assumed it was our
fault, when we installed the SI driver on an otherwise standard 4.1 we
realized what was happening.)

Don't know if this is related to your problem or not, but hope so.

By the way, can anyone out there give us info on using the Fujitsu Eagle
as a system disk (we haven't figured out how to boot from it) or pointers
towards such info?
