[comp.sys.mac.wanted] Using a VCR to back up hard drives

dmanning@ecs.umass.edu (Dave Manning) (03/23/91)

Has anyone ever heard of a way to back up a hard drive to a VCR? A company
makes such a device for the IBM, but they never finished developing a Mac
version.

The IBM one, is a card that sends the data over an RCA line to the recorder.
You set the recorder to record at a certain time and configure the software
to do the same. A normal VCR tape can hold 240 megs! They may be slow, but
who cares if it can be done unattended?

The company was trying to develope one that would connect to the Mac's SCSI
port.

Is there a company that has such a device? What is their phone number?
Also, how much does it cost (the IBM version costs $200).

Thanks in advance!
