So you've installed a huge "General Schwartzkopf" drive in your NeXT, Mac, PC or Sun. Maybe it's a 330, a 660 or even a 1.2 gig. It's big, fast, it's reliable, and it's got all the storage you ever wanted. But you are just a mite nervous, because you know that no matter how reliable it may be, there is always the possibility that a dust mote might slip in between the head and the platter and cause a crash. That is a lot of data to lose at once. You know the right answer of course: backup, backup and backup. But saying that is one thing, and doing it is another. If the drive is a 660, it would require some 450 high density floppies to back it up. Or you could always use 150 40 meg tapes! You'd like to buy a big tape backup unit, but they generally cost well in excess of the price of your drive: $2000-$2500. Our mistake is your good fortune. We've got four extra Exabyte tape drives, each of which can store 2.3 gigabyes on a single, seven-dollar 8 MM video tape, using helical scan technology. They have SCSI interfaces, and are available in one of two configurations: 1) As an internal drive for $1500 2) As an external drive, with case and cables for $1650 You would cover shipping and insurance.
