I am looking for an application or a DA that allows you to
copy files and folders in the background.
Currently I am using the "duplicate" command in MPW to do this,
but not all our users have (or want) MPW, so a specialized program
would be better.
Any ideas?

There is a slick DA that just came out named "On Location", put out by On Technology in Cambridge,MA. Its main function is to find text within files on a volume but it also allows normal file and folder functions (copy, delete, move,etc.). Check it out- although the cost is not exactly low (I got mine for $95) it is an invaluable tool for finding files. Most large vendors are carrying it now. Don

Sure, On Location is great. I have it too. But it doesn't help
me with what I asked about.
If you copy a file or a folder with On Location it brings up a modal
dialog. So it *doesn't* copy in the background, it ties up the Mac
just like a Finder-initiated copy does.
I have received a number of letters in response to my query.
And they all read on the lines of "I'd like this too. If you find out
anything, please let me know."
So I guess there is a market for that kinda thing out there.
Any takers?
