We had a student in here the other day who was a novice user of Word 4.0. She didn't know about the "keep lines together" and "keep with next" options in the paragraph formats, so she used hard page breaks throughout her document to make sure things got divided up the way she wanted them. In fact, I don't think there was a single soft page break anywhere in the document (and it was over 30 pages long). The funny thing was, when she came to print the document out, Word ignored some of the hard breaks. Print Preview on the screen looked fine, but actual printing on the LaserWriter came out differently. Is this a known problem, fixed in 4.0a or 4.0b? We haven't received word of these upgrades from the NZ agents for Microsoft, but I can pester them about it if need be. Or is it something to do with the fact that that document had "fractional widths" turned off? In the end we fixed the problem by inserting enough blank lines at the troublesome points to force the page breaks to the right places.
