Versin 2.0 of Aldus Freehand has a small problem with exporting
graphics as EPS: whenever the picture contains text typeset in the
Symbol font, the EPS will be illegal. The problem is this:
:
:
%%IncludeFont: Symbol
/f0 /Symbol FF def
{
f1 [24 0 0 24 0 0] makesetfont
257 571.000122 moveto
0 0 32 0 0 (a) ts
}
:
:
f0 is defined, but f1 is used. Things work if you change f0 into f1
or vice versa. Curiously, this occured only with the Symbol font of
the samples I tried more or less in random.
Question: does the latest version of Freehand have this problem?

No - 2.02 (which upgrade is free - has fixed this as well as allowing TIFF
files to be transparent.
