[net.followup] watmath.5912: Computer Programmers Can be Taxed

jtb@phs.UUCP (10/07/83)

"Artists can donate paintings to .... ccharitable organizations, therby getting
a big tax writeoff"

On the contrary unless an artist has sold enough works that there is an
established market for his/her work the tax write off is limited to THE COST
OF MATERIALS ONLY !! You cannot even value your time at minimum wage for
tax purposes. The only exception to this is estate taxes for this purpose
all works in an artists estate are valued at the highest price any of the
his/her works ever brought even if the artist only sold one work. This
piece of tax law has ruined the familys of more than one artist since they
could not unload the entire collection at a good price.
Wait till they apply this one to programers !
