[comp.sys.mac.apps] Excel Help/Init conflict

dave@cmi.com (David Halonen) (08/10/90)

I cannot get my Excel Help window to appear. Selecting "Help" from the
"Window" menu puts the spreadsheet in the background and Excel TRIES to
bring the help window up, but nothing appears. If I press <command> <w>
to close the window, the "invisible" help window goes away and the
spreadsheet appears as the frontmost window.

I suspect an INIT conflict and am wondering if someone can offer some
advice on potentially poor inits for Excel.

BTW, does MS offer any technical support? E-mail, AppleLink, dare I say
it? Ok, "A body on a phone?" Am I totally missing something from the
manual?

Thanks for any advice/help!

Sounds to me like Excel thinks it is using a much bigger monitor than
what you have. It is opening the window, but opening it off screen. It
probably isn't checking monitor size. Did you run it on a larger screen
recently? Possible it has saved the screen info and is not updating it. Try
installing a fresh copy off the master disk and see if that doesn't solve
the problem. If it doesn't, call the tech support (number is below) and see
if they can help you.

Generally, Microsoft products are very unfriendly to INITs. There is a
document floating around which lists many INITs and the conflicts you can
run into with them. It may be on SUMEX.
