[comp.sys.mac.apps] Problems with SoundMover 1.61c

ddaniel@lindy.Stanford.EDU (D. Daniel Sternbergh) (08/15/90)

Since my officemate installed some sounds using SoundMover 1.61c we've
been unable to boot from our MacIIcx. When booting from our hard
disk, it gets as far as the happy mac, but gives the chime of doom a
few seconds later. We can boot from a floppy and switch systems.

I've removed the snd resource from the system file, but that hasn't
helped. I may be wrong in blaming SoundMover, but it's the only thing
we can narrow the problem down to.

Is anyone familiar with SoundMover? Has anyone seen this problem
before? Most importantly, can anyone suggest a fix? I've replaced
the old system file with a stripped down one copied from the 6.0.4
installer disk, but would prefer to save the old system rather than go
through the customizations again.

Many thanks for your help. This machine screws up return addresses,
so if you e-mail you may do better to send to the address below.

The problem I mentioned earlier (article now cancelled) with
SoundMover has been resolved. It is still not clear that it was
SoundMover, so I apologize if I've mistakenly blamed that application,
although I'm still suspicious. What resolved the problem was removing
a copy of NetChat DA which we'd recently installed for evaluation.
Whether it developed a flaw, or got trashed by SoundMover (don't make
sense to me, but...) we still don't know.
