At SIGGRAPH I bought Barnsley's Desktop Fractal Design System for the Macintosh (published by Academic Press). It's a neat program, but will not run on all Macs. I should have been suspicious when I read the sentence that said you should run with only a single monitor so as not to "confuse" the "low-level graphics routines". If you run DFDS on a Mac II with a screen larger than the standard Apple video card, it will crash. I have tested this on a Mac II at school with a Radius TPD, and a Mac II at home running MaxAppleZoom Init. It crashed in both cases. When I removed MaxAppleZoom from my startup set, DFDS ran just fine. I consider this to be basically unacceptable behavior, but I haven't decided whether to try to get my money (<$30) back, yet. If you're considering buying this program, be aware of this "gotcha". -- =Spencer W. Thomas EECS Dept, U of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI 48109 spencer@eecs.umich.edu 313-936-2616 (8-6 E[SD]T M-F)
