Dennis Ritchie has pointed out to me that there are bugs in both System V and 4.2BSD that make my statement about write-protected text untrue. His words were that the bugs are "pretty ghastly". That was the intent of the code, but I guess life isn't what it's made out to be. I'll try to find out what the bugs are and post them, too. -- Ed Gould ucbvax!mtxinu!ed
