[comp.sys.mac.apps] Screen Saver w/ a password?

rww@demon.siemens.com (Richard W West) (09/01/90)

Does anyone know of a screen saver that has the option to turn on/off a
password? Something along the line of what is pretty popular on the SUN
workstations is what I am looking for.

The reason I am looking for this is because I need to be logged onto two
fileservers throughout the night for backups to be done, but I do not
like the fact that someone can easily access the Fileservers using my
machine, which is already logged on as Administrator. Severe security
hazard there..

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The new version After Dark (2.0) has the option to turn a password feature
on and off.

Pyro 4.0 also includes a password feature, which I use on my Mac SE.

In addition, if you REALLY need good password protection in a screen
saver, check out DiskLock, also from Fifth Generation. I have used that
in the past, and in addition to having a password from the screen saver,
it locks down your system on shutdown, such that you need a password to
start it up. I have yet to hear of ANYONE getting around it, either.
Booting from a floppy won't do it. They recently came out with DiskLock
2.0 which is supposedly even better, but I haven't seen this one yet.

You might also look at MacPassword, a shareware cdev/INIT by Art Schumer.
MacPassword is not a screen saver, but a password system.. but it has
a screen saver as one of it's options.

It should be available from the info-mac archives, CIS, genie et al.
