	Scenario #3

Like John Wayne, you kick down the door!! Gun blazing, you nail
three - four - five - six times!! He falls with a sicking thud.
You slowly, cautiously, advance on the bleeding corpse. Groping
for the lights, you finally find them. "He" is your son.
Congradulations, chum, you just blew away your son. Pretty good
shot with that thing, now you wanna try for your head?

For the responsible gun owner, this is not a reasonable (i.e., impossi-
ble) scenario. John Wayne's portrayals are pure fiction. A responsible
gun owner doesn't shoot at anything until he is absolutely sure of what
he's shooting at. This applies to hunting (don't shoot your hunting
partner), the target range (don't shoot at anything but your own target
in your own sights), or an intruder in your home.

The key word here is RESPONSIBLE. A RESPONSIBLE gun owner, would of
course, not do that. However, there are far too few RESPONSIBLE gun
owners, and far too many IRRESPONSIBLE ones. This is why I favor heavy
restrictions on who can own a gun, what training should be manditory, and
what types of guns should be legal....

RESPONSIBILITY!!!
That's what this discussion on gun control is all about.
And who determines whether you are a responsible gun owner.
The government has been chosen by the anti-handgun committees for this role.

They are anti-HANDgun, not anti-gun.
Besides, scenarios 1, 2, 3, and 4 could have taken place with a rifle or
shotgun. Those who keep their handguns under their pillows or in
their nightstands may not agree, but in my house guns were locked up and
a search in the middle of the night for the key??
So, what good is a locked up gun?
An gun in the open is fine, if you like the looks of that in your cozy
home---------

be around. The "target" is, by definition, a
"baddy."
----------------
	Your decision takes longer.
----------------
No. My knowledge on the situation is complete as soon as I wake up and
realize that someone unfriendly is in the house. If I am careful (as I
naturally would be at such a point), the "baddy" won't know that *I*
know he's there. *His* decision takes longer.

I really feel that it is time that this discussion left the net. We
have all expressed our opinion(s) repeatedly and with varying degrees
of force, but the degree of force has tended toward the high end. We
are no longer accomplishing anything here (probably including this note)
so I would like to offer that we let it drop here for the net's sake.

Always willing to continue the discussion privately through the mail,
