I was investigating a problem that I was having with Edit V2.1. This editor was hanging when I invoked the tool. I tracked the problem down to (I thought at the time) Suitcase. I then tried using Font/DA Juggler to see if that would fix the problem. Now Edit was starting up OK but two other problems surfaced. Edit kept starting up in some obscure font and ATM stopped working altogether. (ATM is Adobe Type Manager for those not in the know) The ATM problem was tracked down to ATM not being able to find the necessary outline fonts. The ATM manual states that the outline fonts will be found if they are in the same folder as any open font suitcase or in the system folder. Placing all these outlines in the system folder can create quite a mess so I kept my suitcases and outline fonts in a folder call "fonts" in the system folder. To get ATM to find the outline fonts (with Font/DA Juggler) I had to remove my outline fonts from my "fonts" folder and move them to the system folder, what a mess! I have 31 font families that makes for 52 outline fonts! Now the only remaining problem was edit and the odd font. Well.......the whole problem was with Edit 2.1, not with ATM, Suitcase or Font/DA Juggler. I posted a notice about Edit starting up with some off the wall font (instead of Monaco) and someone sent me a patched Edit that I call V2.1a. The problem with Edit 2.1 is it's inability to handle a huge list of fonts (31 families, remember?). I believe that the patch forces Monaco to be used. Now all was well with the world except for having a clogged up system folder (with outline fonts) so I reverted to using Suitcase again. Voila, back to where I started from. Happy again! Version Information =================== System 6.0.5 Suitcase II V1.2.6 Font/DA Juggler Plus V1.03 Edit 2.1 (patched) Adobe Type Manager V1.2 (I now use V2.0 but I have not retested this problem, would you?)
