We have purchased a copy of Design Studio vs.1.0 for our Mac SE at our church. The SE is configured with 4.0 megs of RAM. We are having some problems with it locking up while doing editing functions on 3-4 page documents. It will lock up the screen and only a reboot will allow you to continue. Has anyone else had similar problems with the package? According to the "About the Finder" window, we have over 2 Megs of ram free when Design Studio is up with one of our files open. thanks please email responses if possible. It was sent free when I registered 1.0, and it's been out for a while now. Also, I've found that Boomerang must be turned off while using DesignStudio, since there seems to be some bad interaction that goes on between them. Boomerang has a setting in its cdev that allows you to disable it while running certain applications. Other than the Boomerang problem, DesignStudio is very stable in everyday use -- but you should make sure you have 1.01, not 1.0. -- Steve Baumgarten | "New York... when civilization falls apart, Davis Polk & Wardwell | remember, we were way ahead of you." baumgart@esquire.dpw.com | cmcl2!esquire!baumgart | - David Letterman

Yeah? We eventually gave up on DesignStudio and went back to ReadySetGo. We found DS to be almost unusable, and 1.01 didn't improve matters at all. The only symptom that I still recall is failure to refresh parts of the screen ... trying to use a scroll bar you can't see is no fun. It occurs to me that I have not tried DS again since moving to system 6.0.5. I use it under 6.0.5 on a IIfx with an Apple Two-Page display and Apple 8.24 video card. Certainly if programs are going to crash, they do it running under that kind of configuration, given that 32-bit QD is in ROM and whatnot. But I haven't had any problems since turning off Boomerang, and I've made fairly heavy use of it (though I haven't created long documents with it yet). I run ATM and TypeAlign along with it, and haven't had any crashes I could trace to DesignStudio. There are times when the screen won't completely refresh, but I've never lost the scroll bars or anything. A quick scroll with the hand tool usually fixes things, and it doesn't happen very often. You should give it another try, and if it doesn't work, bitch and moan at Letraset, since otherwise you spent $75 on a pretty worthless upgrade. Other than the fact that I'm in hierarchical menu hell whenever I use the program, I like it. -- Steve Baumgarten | "New York... when civilization falls apart, Davis Polk & Wardwell | remember, we were way ahead of you." baumgart@esquire.dpw.com | cmcl2!esquire!baumgart | - David Letterman
