I've been told by a sales staff member at MacConnection that the copies of Chessmaster 2100 they've been getting lately have been infected with the WDEF virus. (That was why I was getting cards saying "The item you ordered is out of stock..."). I had meanwhile bought the program at a local retail outlet. I ran Disinfectant on it and found that it was not (repeat, not) infected. If you bought Chessmaster 2100 recently it would probably be wise to check it. [Aside: as one who was a patzer even before he got out of practice, I can't really rate CM 2100's playing ability; as far as the programming is concerned, it seems to be mostly adequate. The chess piece conversion utility mentioned in the manual is NOT included, and when I try to open a file in the "Chess set..." dialog, my Mac crashes. The program also crashed once in midgame (just after I'd made a particularly stupid move, so I ain't complaining.) The analysis option seems to be a can of bugs: in particular, I can't get "Analyze to disk" or "Analyze to printer" to work. The documentation's pretty good & interesting.] -- - Rich Holmes rich@suhep.bitnet Syracuse U. Physics Dept. rich@suhep.phy.syr.edu or if you must: rsholmes@rodan.acs.syr.edu
