[comp.sys.mac.apps] A Question about Disk Doubler and SUM TuneUp

nwc1@quads.uchicago.edu (einsturzende neubaten) (12/05/90)

I used to run DiskDoubler for a short time, while deciding whether or not to
keep it. I compressed some of my files, decompressing them just as I needed
to use them. This arrangement worked well enough, but when I tried to use
SUM TuneUp to optimize, optimization failed. Somewhere in the process of
optimizing, after saying "Space needed to move: 21532 bytes" or whatever, it
would stop.

I have traced the difficulty to DiskDoubler because it was the only new piece
of software which I was debuting. I have since removed it, with only little
result. SUM TuneUp works only marginally better than before. It still will not
fully optimize a disk. My room mate had no problems with this, incidentally.
Pertinent Information:

SUM TuneUp (SUM Tools 2.0)
Disk Doubler b05 (I know, I know)
System 6.0.5 Finder 6.0.5, MultiFinder 6.1b9
Macintosh SE/30 with 2/40 HD (quantum, standard dealer installed)

Room mate's (working) setup, only difference is:
Mac SE with 2.5 / 20 HD (apple dealer installed)

INIT's running at the time: AppleShare, INIT CDEV, SAM intercept, GateKeeper,
moire, and that's about it. turning these off made (and still makes) no
difference.

Again, I am NOT running DiskDoubler anymore, yet the problem
still exists. Is it that it permanently changed the files so that they are
no longer able to be optimized?

Any replies, etc. should be sent to me via E-mail. Thanks very much. Remember,

KEEP PRAYING FOR SYSTEM 7.0!!!!!!!!!!!!

later!
