[comp.sys.mac.apps] Funny Problems Optimizing with SUM II

nwc1@quads.uchicago.edu (einsturzende neubaten) (12/08/90)

Well, thanks to the numerous people who wrote to me. Here is a summary of replies:

1. IT WAS NOT DISK DOUBLER's FAULT. This is the most important thing. Sorry, whatever to whomsoever wrote it. No one who wrote to me had had any problems with that product. I may actually find & register one, if I can get it. It's OK after all.

2. SUM II seems to have a problem. SUM TuneUp specifically is referred to here. Others have had difficulty with the optimization of their HD's, specifically perhaps with 40 meggers. (I dunno. . .) One Mac'er formatted his HD and replaced it, but to no avail. After a month or so, the problem resurfaced.

3. (By the way, my disk also refused to "QuickFix" . . . hmmm.)

4. Many replies. I wonder if someone related to Symantec might want to venture a guess? Not that it's their fault or anything, but it IS their program. Whatever. Most interesting is the hardware aspect of it all.

5. Oh, that reminds me, one person suggested making a duplicate of everything, and putting it back together one at a time. I suppose that the ultimate example is that of backing up and reformatting.
