I know that CricketDraw isn't a serious competitor in the diagramming/graphics application stakes these days, but I was using it heavily back in 1987/8 and this has left me with a problem. I have about 100 high-quality illustrations that were produced in 1988 for a book, with CricketDraw 1.1. Now I need to update them for a new editon of the book and the software is defeating me. Here's the situation: I can open the original drawing files with CricketDraw 1.1 and edit them quite happily, but when I try to paste the pictures into a Word 4 document, the document almost always fails to print, with a Postscript error on the pages containing the drawings. The last time we edited the book, we printed the diagrams by outputting PostScript files directly from CricketDraw and sending them more-or-less straight to the printer (a LaserWriter). We didn't attempt to merge the pictures into a Word document (Word wasn't strong enough for book production in those days). This time the use of Word is the preferred method, but we're stuck with this problem, which seems likely to be caused by CricketDraw generating faulty QuickDraw, which results in faulty PostScript when the LaserWriter driver processes it (Im using System 6.05). But there could be other factors at work (changes in LaserPrep, changes in the LaserWriter driver?). I'll be very grateful for any clues. George Coulouris PS. The book?
