The following is in response to a question I'm frequently asked about Fractal Wizard (previously called Fractal Magic). This program, which was posted on comp.binaries.mac, and is also available from the sumex-aim ftp site, needs a Colour QuickDraw machine with an 68020 and 68881. The Mac LC and IIsi are the first colour QuickDraw machines without an FPU, and when you try to run FW on these machines, you'll get an Alert stating it needs a Mac II to run. For a IIsi user, this is probably rather confusing, and for an LC user, it can give the incorrect idea that his/her machine won't run FW at all. So, to clear up all confusion: you do need Colour QuickDraw, an 68020, an 68881, and System >= 6.0. On the IIsi and the LC, all that's missing of these requirements is the FPU, and that can be emulated with "PseudoFPU" by John M. Neil. FW should run with this. (I did not test this, as I don't have access to either machine yet, but I foresee no problems. FW is written very cleanly and has shown no compatibility problems so far.) I found PseudoFPU in the sumex archive, in the /info-mac/cdev directory. If you can't ftp, here's John's address: John M.
