Mother Bell has no right whatsoever to tell me how I may communicate using my telephone. If I want to speak in German, then I will speak in German. If I want to speak in QPSK, then I will speak in QPSK. Because I have a modem does *NOT* mean that I use it for business, either. In the interest of equality, they had better charge the same rate to those folks with hearing impediments that rely on modems for electronic communication. In fact, they should raise the rates for the hundreds of thousands of teenagers out there that hang on the phone for hours and hours. Put everybody on metered local service. I don't mind paying for what I use; I do mind paying much more than anyone else for the same service because MB didn't project correct usage statistics (even if it wasn't her fault). And it *is* the same service! I hope that the deregulation of The Phone Company follows in the footsteps of The Prohibition. -- eric ..!ihnp4!washu!eric
